GIGAZINE readers' internet connection method: wireless? Wired? We also asked about their dissatisfaction with Wi-Fi routers

When watching videos, playing games, or downloading files on a PC, smartphone, or game console, the speed and stability of your internet connection directly impacts your perceived comfort. However, it's surprisingly difficult to know whether Wi-Fi is the primary method of internet connection in homes or whether wired connections are still the norm, what factors people consider when choosing a line, and where complaints about routers tend to stem. So, in a survey conducted as part of
First, we asked, 'Is your PC usually connected to the internet via wired or wireless?' The majority of respondents, 42.28%, answered wireless. Meanwhile, 30.37% answered wired, and 23.39% said they alternate between wired and wireless. Only 3.96% of respondents said they don't connect their PC to the internet.

Next, we asked, 'What time of day do you feel your internet connection is slow on your PC, smartphone, game console, etc.?' The most common answers were 8pm-9pm and 9pm-10pm, followed by 7pm-8pm and 10pm-11pm. While most answers were from the evening, it seems that many people also feel their internet connection is slow during their lunch break from 12pm-1pm.

Next, when asked 'Why did you sign up for the internet line you are currently using?', the most common answer was 'Because it's fast and stable,' followed by 'Because it's cheap.' There were also a certain number of responses that said, 'It was installed in my home, or my parents signed up, so it wasn't my decision,' indicating that not all decisions are made by the individual after comparing and considering options. Other responses included, 'I matched it with my smartphone carrier,' 'I was attracted by a campaign,' and 'I was persuaded at the store.'

When asked, 'What is the wiring method for the line you are using?', it was found that optical fiber wiring was the predominant method at 72.00%. 13.88% of respondents answered that they 'don't know' the wiring method, suggesting that some people do not have a detailed understanding of the wiring method. Furthermore, LAN wiring was used by 8.40% and VDSL by 5.72%.

When asked, 'Do you want to switch your provider?', 12.3% answered 'Yes' and 87.7% answered 'No.' The majority want to maintain the status quo, but more than 10% are considering switching.

Finally, when asked, 'What are your complaints about Wi-Fi routers?', the most common answer was 'The connection sometimes drops,' followed by 'The signal doesn't reach the edges of the house.' Responses included 'The speed is slow,' 'The standard is old,' 'The speed slows down when multiple devices are connected,' and 'The signal weakens when using a microwave,' revealing that it's not just the speed itself, but also the way it reaches the internet and interference within the home that can be stressful.

When we asked those who answered 'Other' to the previous question what aspects of the Wi-Fi router they use they were dissatisfied with, we received responses such as 'It's lacking in features,' 'It doesn't support 10Gbps LAN,' 'It's unstable for gaming,' 'I'm worried about security,' and 'I should have bought a router with a built-in ad blocker.'
The survey results show that many GIGAZINE readers are looking for Wi-Fi routers and providers that can 'prevent internet connection interruptions during use' and 'allow connection from anywhere in the house.' Why not place an article ad for such GIGAZINE readers and increase your sales? Of course, it doesn't have to be internet-related, such as Wi-Fi routers or providers, or anything else!
