The Tokyo Last Train Map interactively displays the last trains heading from the city center to the suburbs, based on Yamanote Line stations like Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ikebukuro. As indicated at the bottom of the screen, the start time is 11 PM, and pressing the play button starts the time flow. The lines drawn in the line color indicate the last trains on each line, the station names written on the inside of the circle indicate the base Yamanote Line station, and the stations on the outside of the circle indicate the destination stations for the last trains.

The red circle, which indicates the passage of time, begins to spread from the center of the image and reaches the red line below at 11:10 PM. This indicates that the last train bound for Kozu on the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line departs from Osaki at 11:10 PM.

If the line is overtaken by a red circle, it means the train has already departed the base station and the color disappears. As of 11:30 PM, in addition to the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line bound for Kozu, the following trains had also disappeared: the 11:12 PM JR Yokosuka Line bound for Kurihama, the 11:14 PM JR Utsunomiya Line bound for Utsunomiya, the 11:25 PM JR Takasaki Line bound for Takasaki, the 11:27 PM JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line bound for Ebina, and the 11:28 PM JR Chuo Line bound for Otsuki.

The first private railway train to depart is the Keikyu Main Line bound for Keikyu Kurihama, departing from Shinagawa at 11:32 p.m.

As of midnight, it is still possible to return to Omiya, Chiba, Hiratsuka, Takao, Shinrin Koen, etc.

However, 15 minutes later, trains to Chiba, Hiratsuka, Takao, and Shinrin Koen had already departed.

By midnight, the number of remaining trains had dwindled to the point where it would be quicker to count them. The remaining 17 trains were: JR Keihin-Tohoku Line to Minami-Urawa, Nippori-Toneri Liner to Minumadai-Shinsui-Koen, Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line to Matsudo, JR Joban Rapid Line to Matsudo, JR Keihin-Tohoku Line to Kamata, Tokyu Ikegami Line to Yukigaya-Otsuka, Tokyu Meguro Line to Okusawa, Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line to Nakameguro, Keio Inokashira Line to Fujimigaoka, Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line to Yoyogi-Uehara, Odakyu Odawara Line to Kyodo, Keio New Line to Sakurajosui, Toei Oedo Line to Tocho-mae, Toei Oedo Line to Hikarigaoka, JR Chuo-Soubu Line to Nakano, JR Chuo-Soubu Line to Mitaka, and Tobu Tojo Line to Narimasu.

At 24:46, the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line bound for Kamata and the Toei Oedo Line bound for Tocho-mae depart, followed by the JR Chuo-Sobu Line trains, which leave Shinjuku at 24:52 and arrive at Nakano at 24:59.

The last trains, which no longer appear on the map, continue to run towards their destinations, with the latest train to arrive at its final destination being the JR Takasaki Line bound for Takasaki at 25:14.

The default mode is 'Yamanote Line mode,' but in

map mode you can view the last trains for each station. In addition to Yamanote Line stations, you can also view the last trains for Akabane, Kita-Senju, Kinshicho, Yokohama, and Nakano.

For example, in Yokohama, it looks like this. It includes trains coming from Shinjuku and Tokyo, but also trains completely unrelated to the Yamanote Line, such as the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line and the Sotetsu Main Line. The last train to leave Yokohama Station is not a JR train, but the Sotetsu Main Line bound for Kashiwadai, departing at 24:27.

By the way, some Shinkansen trains also depart from stations that overlap with the Yamanote Line, but since the last train leaves in the 10pm range, they are not shown on the map that starts at 11pm.
