The XPS 14 and XPS 16 bodies are made from machined recycled aluminum. The thermal design has been completely revised from the previous generation, with a larger, thinner fan, resulting in cooler, quieter operation and longer battery life while maintaining high performance.

The XPS 14 and XPS 16 are the slimmest laptops in Dell's history, measuring just 14.6mm thick and featuring an 8-megapixel, 4K resolution camera. The XPS 14 weighs approximately 3 pounds (1.4kg) and the XPS 16 weighs approximately 3.6 pounds (1.7kg), significantly lighter than the previous generation. Dell emphasized that the XPS 14 is more compact than the MacBook Air 13, saving desk space while increasing screen real estate.

Intel claims that the XPS 14 and XPS 16 are equipped with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors and Intel Arc Graphics with 12 Xe cores, Intel's highest performance integrated graphics, delivering up to 57% and 78% faster AI performance and over 50% faster graphics performance compared to previous models.

The storage is SSD and comes in four types: 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. The memory comes in three types: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.

The display features an InfinityEdge design and is available in two options: a tandem OLED (organic EL) display with

a DCI-P3 100% color gamut, or a 2K LCD display with a sRGB 100% color gamut.

The XPS 14's tandem OLED is 2880 x 1800 pixels, while the XPS 16's is 3200 x 2000 pixels, with a variable refresh rate of 20 to 120 Hz. The 2K LCD supports a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz, providing excellent battery efficiency and a vivid visual experience. The official battery life is 'up to 27 hours, with over 40 hours of local video playback.'

The keyboard has been replaced with physical keys, eliminating the unpopular touch function keys of the previous generation model. NotebookcheckReviews praised the adoption of physical keys, saying that 'intuitive operability and ease of use have been greatly improved.'

The new keyboard features a gapless design with no gaps between the keys, and the keycaps have slight indentations that allow for a better fit and more accurate typing. The haptic touchpad, seamlessly integrated into the palm rest, has also been improved, eliminating the 'touchpad' issue that was noted on the previous generation model, NotebookcheckReviews said.

Regarding the user experience of the XPS 14/XPS 16, NotebookcheckReviews cited the 'lightweight and thin body' as a major attraction. They also noted that the aluminum body was very rigid, with no flex when typing, and the hinge was solid. They also praised the cleverly controlled heat generation and fan noise, which meant the laptop didn't get too hot even when used on a lap.

The initial configurations of the XPS 14 and XPS 16 will be available for order starting January 6, 2026, with US prices starting at $2,049.99 for the XPS 14 and $2,199.99 for the XPS 16. Additional configurations will be available in February 2026 for significantly less than $2,000. Additionally, a model of the XPS 14 running Ubuntu 24.04 is scheduled for release in the second half of 2026. Dell also announced that a new version of the XPS 13 will be released in the second half of 2026.
