Russian gadget geek 'builds' his own DDR5 memory

As memory prices continue to rise, there is a global shortage of the latest DDR5 memory, as well as the previous generation DDR4 memory, at the time of writing. So one Russian enthusiast decided to build his own memory.

Russian YouTuber PRO Hi-Tech shared how to create DDR5 memory by combining an empty RAM board with existing memory chips.
Chinese vendors sell DDR5 boards with pre-wired layouts, so the rest of the process is just a matter of buying memory ICs and soldering them to the board, or using existing laptop modules.

However, while a blank RAM board can be purchased for around 1,000 yen, the chips are expensive, with a 16GB module with average specs costing around 12,000 rubles (approximately 24,000 yen). While this is cheaper than buying commercially available RAM, the difference is not significant, and PRO Hi-Tech points out that 'it's fine for personal use, but there's probably no point in selling it.'
Relatively high-end DDR5 memory can also be produced using this method, with PRO Hi-Tech demonstrating that it can build modules with timings as low as 6000 MT/s CL 28.

Technology media VideoCardz pointed out that 'if DDR5 memory prices remain high, what started as an experiment could develop into a small business.'
