Technology media VideoCardz.com has received reports from readers who have been scammed by Amazon, where they ordered DDR5 memory and received DDR2 memory and weights instead.
The victim, Bravo Norris, purchased four XPG Caster 32GB (16GB x 2) DDR5-6000 CL40 memory modules from Amazon.es in Spain. He received three modules first, followed by the fourth a few days later. Tracking information indicates that all of the modules were shipped from Ireland. One of the four modules was a resale, and the other was a genuine, working product.

The third memory was wrapped in plastic and appeared to be genuine at first glance, but it turned out to be old DDR2 memory with a sticker that resembled the heatsink label on DDR5 memory.

The box contained metal plates as weights to disguise its weight.

According to Norris, if you look through the open window in the box, you might be fooled by the sticker, but the print quality of the sticker is so questionable that if you look closely, you might realize it's a fake.
Norris has requested a return from Amazon, but it's unclear whether Amazon will comply. VideoCardz.com advises, 'If you're buying expensive hardware, we recommend recording the unboxing process with a camera. It's a good idea to record the sealed packaging and serial label. This video can be useful in resolving refund disputes, but it's not conclusive evidence and may be rejected in some cases.'
ADATA, the distributor of the XPG Caster 32GB (16GB x 2) DDR5-6000 CL40, told VideoCardz.com, 'We strongly recommend purchasing our products from our official authorized partners and distributors. In addition to continually evaluating the security of our packaging, we are also strengthening consumer education (through social media and official channels to educate users on how to identify genuine ADATA/XPG products) and monitoring the market.'
