In an official blog post on December 10, 2025, Google stated, 'Search and many other services connect people to the web, generate billions of clicks per day, and help websites and creators of all sizes increase their revenue.' The company introduced new features to help users and websites.

One of these is 'Preferred Sources,' which allows users to specify their favorite news sites, blogs, etc. and have them displayed preferentially in Google search results.

To use Preferred Sources, tap the icon to the right of 'Top Stories' displayed in the search results.

Select the website you want to prioritize.

If the websites you select contain content related to what you search for on Google, these websites will be given priority in your search results.

Preferred Sources was launched as a trial in India and the United States in August 2025, and feedback from users and websites was solicited. Users have designated a diverse range of websites, from local blogs to global news media, as their preferred sources, with over 90,000 websites. Websites selected as preferred sources also saw an average of twice the number of clicks, benefiting websites.

Google plans to roll out Preferred Sources globally, starting soon to English-speaking users around the world, and then to all supported languages in early 2026.

Google also announced that it will increase the number of inline links in AI Mode and update the design. Links embedded in AI Mode will now have contextual descriptions that briefly explain the benefits of visiting the link.

Google is piloting commercial partnerships with news publishers around the world, including The Guardian, The Washington Post, Der Spiegel, and El País, to explore how AI can help increase reader engagement. As part of this pilot program, the company is testing AI-powered article summaries and audio description features on publishers' news pages.

'As the way people consume information evolves, we will continue to improve our products for people around the world and listen to feedback from stakeholders across our ecosystem,' Google said.
