Bing begins testing a feature that displays 'generative AI summaries' at the top
Microsoft has announced that it will introduce a search function using generative AI to its search engine 'Bing.' The new search screen displays a summary of search results generated by AI at the top, and testing has already begun for a small number of users.

In conventional search engines, you need to search for what you want by dividing it into words, such as 'what does ____ mean' or 'what is ____'. On the other hand, Bing, which is equipped with generative AI, allows you to search in natural sentences, such as 'What does ____ mean?' In addition, the most prominent part of the search results displays 'answers compiled by generative AI based on the search results.'
Here's an example of a search using Bing with generative AI: First, search for the sentence 'What is a spaghetti western?'
Then, a list of answers that clearly show that 'spaghetti western' is a genre of western film is displayed at the top of the search results. Conventional search results are displayed on the right side of the screen.
The summaries also include links to the original articles for easy access to the original information.
The original articles are also listed at the bottom of the summaries, and further explanations are provided below those.
The overall picture of the search results screen looks like this. The 'Table of Contents' is displayed on the left side of the screen, the 'Summary of Search Results,' 'Link to the Original Information,' and 'Summary of Related Information' are displayed in the center of the screen, and the 'Search Results' are displayed on the right side of the screen.
The search function using generative AI is designed to increase the number of links in search results, and initial tests have shown that it can maintain the number of visitors to web pages from search results.
