The design of the 'glove-type one-handed keyboard' is released, and you can drink coffee while typing

A keyboard that allows you to type with minimal finger movement has been created. The blueprints have been published on GitHub, so anyone can copy and create their own.

What mafik created is a coded keyboard called a 'keyer.' A keyer is a type of keyboard that allows you to enter one character by pressing two or more keys simultaneously, allowing you to type more characters with fewer keys. You can see one type of keyer in action in the video below.

Mafik's keyer looks like this. Mafik says, 'It feels like you're just typing the home keys all the time,' so you can even type while holding a drink in one hand.

The keys are like a glove attached to a keyboard, so you can remove them and use your hands freely. With just one hand, you can create up to 215 different chords using three keys for the thumb, two keys for the index finger, two keys for the middle finger, two keys for the ring finger, and one key for the pinky finger. The layout optimization tool is easy to adjust, and it's designed to avoid finger combinations that are difficult to press based on ergonomics.

It's battery-powered and can be used for several months on a single charge. Its unique feature is that it uses clay, rather than the usual 3D printer material used in similar tools. If you build it yourself, it can be completed for under $50 (about 7,600 yen).

The materials and steps required for making the kit are listed on GitHub. The recommended steps are to build it over several days, with detailed instructions for 'Day 1,' 'Day 2,' and 'Day 3.'

Speaking to Hacker News , mafik said that although he's still not used to it, he can type about 20 words per minute.
