Google releases free version of coding assistant AI 'Gemini Code Assist', capable of completing 180,000 codes per month

Google has announced a free plan for its coding assistance AI, Gemini Code Assist, called Gemini Code Assist for individuals . Extensions for Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDEs have already been released.

Free coding assistance AI such as GitHub Copilot Free has limitations such as 'only being able to process a maximum of 2,000 requests per month.' On the other hand, Gemini Code Assist for individuals can process 6,000 requests per day and 180,000 requests per month. Google says, 'Even an enthusiastic professional programmer would have a hard time reaching the monthly limit of 180,000,' and appeals to the looser restrictions of Gemini Code Assist for individuals.

Gemini Code Assist for individuals also responds to 240 coding-related chat questions per day, and has a context window of 128,000 tokens to accommodate longer codes.

Gemini Code Assist is available for Google's

Firebase development tool and Android Studio, an IDE for Android app development, and also has extensions for Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDEs. In addition, an extension for GitHub has been released, which allows you to 'analyze the contents of pull requests, summarize them, and suggest corrections' for both public and private repositories.

To use Gemini Code Assist for individuals, you will need a personal Google account that is not associated with Google Workspace.
