WinterBreak is a jailbreak tool based on the

Mesquito technique. The detailed jailbreak procedure is as follows:

Access the WinterBreak page and click 'Download.'

A tar.gz file will be downloaded, so select it and click 'Extract All' to unzip it.

Open your Kindle and turn on Airplane Mode from the Quick Actions menu.

Connect your Kindle to your PC and copy all of the files you just extracted.

Disconnect your Kindle from your PC and restart it.

Once the restart is complete, open the Store. You will be asked if you want to turn off Airplane Mode, so tap YES.

The WinterBreak logo will appear, so tap it.

When you see the messages 'Finished installing jailbreak' and 'Please install hotfix now', the jailbreak is complete.

To keep your Kindle jailbroken after updating, you need to install a hotfix. Open

the hotfix page and click 'Download.'

Connect your Kindle to your PC and copy the 'Update_hotfix_universal.bin' file you just downloaded.

Disconnect your Kindle from your PC and tap 'Update your Kindle' from the menu in the upper right corner of the settings.

Tap “Update”.

A book called 'Run Hotfix' will be added, so tap it to run the hotfix. Every time your Kindle is updated, you need to tap this book to run the hotfix.

There are various ways to utilize a jailbroken Kindle, but the following page shows an example of how someone turned it into a weather dashboard.
