'God's Eye' is an autonomous driving system built from scratch by BYD that uses cameras and radar sensors to perform tasks such as parking, automatic braking and adaptive cruise control .

BYD's public relations officer, Li Yunfei, expressed a rather negative view of autonomous driving technology when interviewed at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2023. At that time, BYD had only equipped some of its vehicles with autonomous driving systems.

BYD founder and CEO Wang Chuanfu said that all BYD vehicles, including the most affordable models, will be autonomous, calling this the beginning of a new era in which smart driving is available to all customers. 'Self-driving cars will no longer be an unaffordable luxury, but an essential tool,' he said.

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, BYD's share in China's domestic passenger car market will be 15% and that of the EV market will be 34% in 2024.

In addition, news site Engadget reports that BYD is working with local EV manufacturers such as Geely, Great Wall Motor, and Leapmotor to integrate DeepSeek's AI into their self-driving systems. However, it is unclear when this attempt will take place. Endgadget says that EV giant Tesla is also struggling to get its software on track in China, so it will be interesting to see if BYD can beat Tesla.
