Google has announced a new feature for Samsung's Galaxy Watch 7 LTE called 'Galaxy Watch for Kids,' which allows users to set up their smartwatch for their children. Google says that this feature 'provides the benefits of a smartwatch while allowing parents to set guardrails and make choices that are right for their family.'
The Galaxy Watch for Kids can be used by pairing the smartwatch with the parent's smartphone, selecting 'set-up for a child' and enabling the eSIM. Parents can use the Galaxy Watch for Kids to make the following settings.
- Manage contacts you can call or text from your smartwatch.
- You can approve or deny apps that your child installs on their smartwatch. You can also block apps that have already been installed.
- You can track your child's location and check their current location.
- You can restrict the functions of the smartwatch during class hours at school or cram school, so that children cannot play with the smartwatch during class.

Google also announced that it has worked with popular kids' brands to introduce 'Teacher Approved' badges to 20 apps and watch
Apps with the 'Teacher Approved' badge include Marvel HQ: Kids Super Hero Fun , which lets kids play with Marvel characters and create watch faces, and Barbie Color Creations , which lets kids color with Barbie. These teacher-approved apps have been evaluated by educators and children's media experts on factors such as age appropriateness, quality of experience, fulfillment, and enjoyment.
Galaxy Watch for Kids will be rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE model in the coming weeks, and will be available in the US on the AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks.
Overseas media The Verge pointed out that with Apple introducing child-friendly settings to the Apple Watch in 2020 and Google announcing the children's smartwatch ' Fitbit Ace LTE ' in 2024, there was a growing demand for Samsung to also include parental control features for its smartwatches. 'Samsung is not reinventing the wheel here, it's trying to catch up,' he said.
