Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced a new video editing app called 'Edits' on his Instagram account and Threads account. The Verge points out that Edits is 'a rival to TikTok's video editing app CapCut.'

Mosseri explains, 'Edits is more than just a video editing app; it's a full suite of creative tools, with a dedicated tab for inspiration, a tab for recording your initial ideas, a high-quality camera, all the editing tools you'd expect, the ability to share drafts with friends and other creators, powerful analytics about the performance of the videos you share on Instagram, and more.'
Edits includes analytics tools that allow you to check the breakdown of engagement between followers and non-followers, metrics that show how often users skip certain videos, etc. It also includes editing tools that allow you to use green screens and video overlays, which are frequently used on TikTok.
Mosseri also explained, 'There's a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it's our job to give creators the best tools possible.' This is thought to be a reference to the fact that CapCut is no longer available due to the suspension of TikTok-related services in the United States following the implementation of the TikTok ban.
In addition, Mosseri explained on his Threads account about Edits, 'We've spent months developing Edits, and we think it will be very different from CapCut. Edits has a wider range of creative tools and a smaller addressable audience. Think of it as a place to track all of your ideas, not a template. Think of it as a place to use AI video editing tools. Think of it as a place to get new insights into why your videos are successful or struggling.'
