According to overseas media The Register, Microsoft 365 prices are being increased in six countries: Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. In Australia, subscribers have been sent emails informing them that the price of Microsoft 365 Personal , a personal plan, will increase by about 49%, from $67 (about 10,500 yen) to $98 (about 15,400 yen) per year.

In addition, it has also been reported that the price of Microsoft 365 Family will increase by approximately 29%, from $85.50 (approximately 13,400 yen) per year to $110 (approximately 17,300 yen).

'These price changes reflect the many subscription benefits we've added over time, including advanced security with Microsoft Defender, creative tools like Clipchamp, countless enhancements in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook, and new features like Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft Designer,' a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement.

Microsoft also said that not all users will see a price increase because subscribers can choose to sign up for lower versions of Microsoft 365 that don't include Microsoft Copilot: Microsoft 365 Personal Classic, Microsoft 365 Family Classic, or Microsoft 365 Basic.

According to The Register, the six countries selected for this test - Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan - are ideal for conducting the test because they each have different levels of growth and adoption of technology. A Microsoft spokesperson said, 'The purpose of this test is to give Microsoft the opportunity to listen to, learn from and improve our users' feedback,' and did not disclose whether the price increase will be implemented in other countries and regions.

Some users point out that 'this price increase will not only discourage some people from continuing their Microsoft 365 subscriptions, but it could also lead to pirated versions.'

In addition, there were also critical voices saying, 'I'm fed up with this stupid subscription system. After this price increase, I'm going to cancel Microsoft 365 and use a free service instead.'
