On December 5, 2024, Waymo announced on its official blog that it will deploy self-driving cars based on the Jaguar I-PACE in Miami from early 2025. According to foreign media CNBC, the cars will first be cruised with a human safety driver, and from 2026, paid ride-hailing services will be available through the Waymo One app.

'Waymo's journey through Florida's harsh rainy conditions has been invaluable in improving our self-driving capabilities,' said Waymo. 'We already provide more than 150,000 trips per week in Phoenix , Los Angeles , San Francisco and Austin , and we're honored to now bring our service to the people of Miami.'

'Fully self-driving technology provides a safe and convenient option for the people of Miami, and we are thrilled to welcome Waymo to our city,' said Miami Mayor Francis X. Suarez . 'Waymo's commitment to sustainability with its all-electric vehicles makes it the perfect mobility option for our city as we continue to prioritize low-cost, clean energy.'

As part of Waymo's expansion plans, the company also announced a partnership with Nigerian mobility startup

Moove , which will initially manage its autonomous vehicle operations, facilities and charging infrastructure in Phoenix, and will later partner with Waymo in Miami for fleet management.

'We're excited to partner with Moove in Phoenix, and later Miami, to combine their mobility-focused fleet management experience with our growing Waymo One service,' said Ryan McNamara, Waymo's vice president of operations. 'Together with Moove, we'll provide safe, seamless journeys for riders, expand more quickly and cost-effectively over time, and continue to lead the industry in safety.'

CNBC reported that Waymo has been rapidly expanding its business since 2023, and completed a funding round totaling $5.6 billion (about 840 billion yen) in October. In September, it announced a partnership with Uber in Austin and Atlanta, and in November, it removed the waiting list in Los Angeles , making it possible for anyone to call a Waymo self-driving taxi throughout Los Angeles.
