In recent years, the capabilities of AI have advanced rapidly, raising concerns that they could take away human employment opportunities . There are also fears that AI systems will replace human creative activities, and in July 2024, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), a labor union consisting of approximately 160,000 actors, staged a strike by all union members working in the gaming sector, demanding a correction to the current situation in which companies use AI to generate content without the consent of actors.

'I think there are two demands in games: one is innovative, AI-driven experiences, and the other is thoughtful, handcrafted content,' Hulst said in an interview with the BBC. 'It's important to strike the right balance between using AI and maintaining the human touch.' He acknowledged that AI is changing games, but stressed that there is also a future for human developers.

This is not the first time that SIE executives have spoken about AI, with Assad Qizilbash, general manager of PlayStation Productions, saying, 'I believe AI will create personalized experiences and meaningful stories for each player. For example, in-game NPCs will be able to interact with players based on their actions, making the experience feel more personal. I think this evolution of the gaming experience will be an important point for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who are digital natives, prefer personalized experiences, and seek more meaningful experiences.'

During the interview, Nishino also revealed that Sony's PlayStation Portal Remote Player , released in November 2023, has been an unexpectedly huge success among PlayStation users.

With PlayStation Portal Remote Player, it has been possible to play games without a PS5 via the cloud since the software update in November 2024. Nishino said, 'We recently enabled gameplay with PlayStation Portal Remote Player via the cloud. We are always exploring different options for how players can play games.'
