A year later, in July 2024, the number of monthly active users was reported to have topped 175 million.
Adam Mosseri, head of Threads, posted that on November 15, 2024, the day after the US presidential election, there were more than 1 million new registrations in one day, and the monthly increase was more than 15 million. This means that in about two weeks, 20 million new registrations were added.
Regarding the US presidential election, it has been pointed out that users were shifting to other social networking sites due to the influence of X's owner, Elon Musk, who is a strong supporter of Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Bluesky, a rival to Threads as an alternative to X, has also reported more than 1 million new registrations in November 2024, bringing its total user base to over 25 million.
