Early access to OpenAI's video generation AI 'Sora' leaked
OpenAI has not released its video generation AI ' Sora ,' announced in February 2024, to the general public, granting early access to only some video creators. Someone who obtained early access to Sora created a front end for Sora so that anyone could use it and leaked it.

On November 26, 2024 local time, Sora PR Puppets, a group protesting OpenAI's duplicity and art-washing tactics, obtained early access to Sora and used it to create a front-end that allows anyone to generate videos using Sora, which they released on Hugging Face.

'This appears to be real. An early tester has used Hugging Face to leak access to OpenAI's Sora,' wrote Tibor Blaho , an engineer at AIPRM who investigated the front-end. 'The reason I think this is real is because it uses OpenAI's Sora API endpoint to download video generation from Hugging Face's Spaces preferences, which includes hardcoded request headers and cookies.'

Sora's front end was shut down and unavailable at the time of writing. However, TechCrunch, a technology media outlet that used the front end, noted that 'any user could generate a 10-second video with a maximum resolution of 1080p (full HD) by simply entering a short text description,' and that 'the queue was quite long, but multiple users of X were able to successfully upload samples, most of which had OpenAI's distinctive watermark.'
The video below is an example of a video generated on the front end. A watermark is placed in the bottom right of the video.

If Sora, it looks like an optimized version. Can generate up to 1080 10-second clips.
Suggest duplicating the space (if that works - my test didn't!).

It has also been pointed out that OpenAI temporarily suspended all early access rights distributed to video creators in order to shut down the leaked Sora front-end. The suspension of Sora's early access rights was apparently three hours after the front-end was made public.
Sora PR Puppets, which leaked Sora, claims that OpenAI is pressuring creators who have received early access to Sora to spread only positive opinions about Sora and is not paying them fairly for their work. Sora PR Puppets writes, 'Hundreds of artists are providing unpaid bug testing, feedback, and experimental work for a $150 billion company (OpenAI) through Sora's early access. This early access program appears to be focused on promotion rather than creative expression or criticism.'

Sora PR Puppets also pointed out that OpenAI strictly controls early access users. According to the group, videos generated by Sora must be approved by OpenAI before being posted on social media. Sora PR Puppets wrote, 'We are not against using AI technology as an artistic tool. If we were against it in the first place, we probably wouldn't have even been invited to this program. What we don't agree with is how OpenAI's program is being deployed and how this tool is being shaped ahead of its potential public release. We are releasing this to the world in the hope that OpenAI will become more open, more artist-friendly, and support the arts beyond promotional activities.'
Initially, Sora PR Puppets did not reveal the names of its members, but on November 26, it released a petition from people who support the group's philosophy. At the time of writing, 134 artists and creators had signed the petition.

In response, an OpenAI spokesperson said, 'Sora is still in research preview and we are working to balance creativity with robust safety measures for wider use.' 'Hundreds of artists who participated in the alpha version have been involved in the development of Sora and helped prioritize new features and safety measures.' 'Participation is voluntary and there is no obligation to provide feedback or use the tool. We are pleased to provide free access to these artists and will continue to support creators through grants, events, and other programs. We believe AI can be a powerful creative tool and are committed to making Sora useful and safe.'
In addition, an OpenAI spokesperson claims that creators participating in early access have 'no obligations' to OpenAI other than to 'use Sora responsibly and not share any confidential information about Sora.' However, it is unclear what 'use responsibly' means, and it is also unclear what information OpenAI considers confidential.

In addition, OpenAI has reportedly been selling Sora to Hollywood, but at the time of writing, no partnerships between OpenAI and major production companies have been announced.
