It has been revealed that five short films created using OpenAI's video generation AI, Sora, will be screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival. These short films were created using Sora, which can generate videos from text prompts, and this is the first time that a film using Sora has been screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival.
OpenAI has reportedly been meeting with Hollywood movie studios, media executives and talent agencies to pitch Sora for use in film productions.

Sora is a video generation AI that has not yet been made public. Therefore, even for AI filmmakers, it can be said that making a movie with Sora is a completely new experience. OpenAI is providing early access to Sora to five film directors, and the film directors were required to agree to the AI filmmaking conditions negotiated with the Directors Guild of America (DGA), Writers Guild of America (WGA), Screen Actors Guild, and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) in 2023.
One of the Sora-powered shorts being shown at TriBeCa Film Festival is produced by Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner 'Nanny' director Nikatu Dziusu. Other shorts made with Sora include Bonny Discepolo, Ellie Fombi, Reza Sixo Safai and Michaela Ternasky-Holland.

Existing video generation AI can only generate short videos of about 6 to 8 seconds. However, Sora can generate videos of up to 60 seconds. It also has a variety of features, including unique camera movements, subjects that can interact with others and unique background characters, a strong sense of the surrounding situation, the ability to see the same scene from different backgrounds, and the ability to trigger events at different moments. However, it does not have audio that allows for conversation, and it is prohibited to generate videos related to sexual acts or violence.
The five short films produced using Sora will be screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival on June 15, 2024 local time. After the screening, there will also be a talk session with the five film directors who produced the films.
