Acecook has released 'Oden Udon Odon', a combination of oden and udon, and I actually tried it

Acecook will release a Japanese-style cup noodle called ' Oden Udon Odon ' on Monday, December 2, 2024, which combines the winter staples of oden and udon. The cup is said to be inspired by Kansai-style oden, with a Japanese-style soup made with dashi and ginger and topped with fish paste. Acecook provided us with the actual product, so we tried it ahead of time.

The packaging for 'Oden Udon Odon' boldly reads 'Odon' and also includes a photo of udon noodles placed in oden.

The ingredients are as follows. The oden ingredients included as toppings were 'seasoned chicken dumplings,' 'shrimp-flavored egg processed products,' and 'fu.'

I opened the lid and looked inside. There were toppings lined up on top of the noodles.

Pour in boiling water.

The waiting time is 5 minutes.

The finished product is below. The shrimp-flavored egg products, seasoned chicken dumplings, and gluten are used, so the color is quite plain and unimpressive.

When you first try the soup, you can really taste the umami flavor of the kelp and bonito flakes, along with the soft aroma of ginger.

The udon is smooth and chewy. The soup is a little sweeter than regular udon soup, and it certainly reminds me of Kansai-style oden soup. While it tastes like udon in leftover oden soup, it feels a little strange when you eat it as udon.

Of the three toppings, the wheat gluten soaked up the broth well and mixed in well with the udon. The seasoned chicken meatballs had a strong chicken flavor and saltiness when chewed. The shrimp-flavored egg product had a strong shrimp aroma and a fluffy texture. It was a little underwhelming as an oden topping, but since it was just a udon topping, I felt it was just the right combination.

Acecook's 'Oden Udon Odon' will be available at supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide from Monday, December 2, 2024.
