The above update does not apply to Windows 7/8 or macOS 10.13/10.14, and Valve, the operator, has stated that 'This version of the Steam client will no longer work on those operating systems. Users of these OS versions will not be automatically updated to the new version of the Steam client.'
Valve has announced that it has ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 as of January 1, 2024, and stated that after this date, Steam clients installed on those operating systems will no longer receive any kind of updates, including security updates. However, an update on November 5th again indicated that these updates would no longer be received.
