Windows 11 finally surpasses Windows 10 as most popular OS among gamers

Steam, a PC game sales platform, publishes information about the operating systems and hardware used by Steam users. The results of a new survey for August 2024 were released, revealing that the most popular operating system among users has changed from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Steam conducts monthly surveys of the computer hardware and software used by its users. In the August 2024 survey, the percentage of users using Windows 11 increased by 3.36% from the previous month to 49.17%, making it the most used OS among Steam users. In contrast, the percentage of Windows 10, which had previously held the top share, dropped 3.07% from July 2024 to 47.09%.

Windows 11's share of the web as a whole is also on the rise, and according to

a survey by StatCounter, which analyzes web traffic, Windows 11's share in August 2024 increased 7.97% from the previous month to 31.53%. However, Windows 10 still has an overwhelming share of the web as a whole, with Windows 10's share in August 2024 being 64.14%.

Support for Windows 10 is scheduled to end in October 2025, and Microsoft is calling for users to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. It has also announced a pricing structure for the extended support program for users who want to continue using Windows 10 after support ends.
