Someone overclocks a Raspberry Pi 5 to 3.6GHz using liquid nitrogen

The Raspberry Pi 5 is rated at 2.4GHz, but overclocking enthusiast SkatterBencher managed to boost the clock frequency to 3.6GHz using liquid nitrogen and other methods.

SkatterBencher basically uses Ubuntu, but for overclocking the Raspberry Pi 5, he used Raspberry Pi OS and applied a NUMA emulation patch that can improve the processing performance of the Raspberry Pi.

In addition, a liquid nitrogen container was placed on top of the Raspberry Pi 5 SoC.

By pouring liquid nitrogen into the container to cool the SoC and overclocking it, we were able to achieve 3600MHz (3.6GHz).

Below is

the Geekbench 6 score when the Raspberry Pi 5 is operated at 3.6GHz. The single-core score is 1062 points. For reference, the single-core score is around 800 when operated at the rated 2.4GHz .

In addition, SkatterBencher tried overclocking beyond 3.6GHz, but it did not work, and measures such as 'strengthening the power supply circuit' and 'replacing the crystal oscillator with a variable one' were also ineffective.
