A pirate streaming site that grew rapidly to millions of pageviews per month in a year has announced it will close down under pressure from regulators.

The pirate streaming site Braflix offered a vast illegal library of movies and TV shows in an easy-to-use interface, and within a year of its launch in 2023, it had grown to attract millions of monthly visitors. Due to its rapid popularity and the closure of other pirate sites one after another, Braflix became a target of regulators, and although it took measures such as changing its domain, it officially announced its closure in November 2024.

Braflix, which is operated in Brazil, has millions of visitors per month and was in a position to make more profits as other major pirate streaming sites were closing down, according to TorrentFreak, a media outlet that covers piracy topics. Below is the appearance of the Braflix site shown by TorrentFreak. However, according to TorrentFreak, Braflix was not a high priority for regulators and was able to avoid regulation for a year after its launch, but as other pirate sites were closing down, it was coming under pressure to be regulated.

In June 2024, the

Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a coalition of major global entertainment companies and movie studios fighting piracy, filed a DMCA summons targeting multiple piracy apps and popular pirate streaming sites. The list of domains targeted included 'braflix.video.'

Later, in August , the Motion Picture Association, Inc. (MPA) , an American film producers and distributors association, warned Braflix as a 'serious piracy threat' during EU consultations. Like ACE, the MPA listed several piracy sites and reported that 'Braflix.video is a popular streaming site operated in Brazil that offers a vast library of titles, including movies, TV shows, live channels, anime, and Korean dramas subtitled in multiple languages.'

Braflix has been a major regulatory target since the summer of 2024, changing its domain name multiple times and receiving a series of DMCA requests that have seen it taken offline by its hosting provider and its operators respond by hosting the site elsewhere, but the regulatory pressure has not subsided.

As a result, on the morning of November 4, 2024, Braflix announced on its website that 'Braflix is officially closed. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible story and helped build a strong community.' The Braflix Discord channel stated that Braflix had received a cease and desist notice from the London Police and the MPA, but no further details were given. Any Braflix-related domains will redirect to ACE's '

Watch Legally ' page after the shutdown.

TorrentFreak writes, 'The closure of Braflix is a victory for copyright holders, but it also epitomizes the never-ending whack-a-mole strategy of pirate sites. As major pirate sites are shut down, new teams quickly emerge to fill the void, using similar code to create sites that look almost identical. Pirate users know this too, so when their favorite pirate site is shut down, they simply shrug their shoulders and move on to the next streaming portal.'
