Benchmark tests reveal that the new MacBook Pro's 'M4 Max' has the strongest CPU performance on the market

On October 31, 2024, Apple

announced the new M4 chip family, M4 Pro and M4 Max, along with the new MacBook Pro . At the time of writing, the M4 Max is the top model of the M4 chip family, which is only installed in the MacBook Pro, but the results of benchmark tests have revealed that the performance of this chip is among the strongest on the market.

At the time of writing, the M4 chip family consists of three models: M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max, with the M4 Max being the most high-spec SoC. The M4 Max is equipped with a maximum 16-core CPU with up to 12 high-performance cores and 4 high-efficiency cores, and is said to be up to 2.2 times faster than the M1 Max CPU and up to 2.5 times faster than the latest AI-enabled Windows PC chips. In addition, the GPU is equipped with up to 40 cores and supports up to 128GB of high-speed unified memory and up to 546GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The benchmark scores for the M4 Max have been published on the benchmark app

Geekbench 6 .

The benchmark score of the M4 Max is a single-core CPU score of 4060 and a multi-core CPU score of 26675. The single-core score of the M3 Max-equipped MacBook Pro is 3114 and the multi-core score is 21097, so the CPU is about 26% faster.

At the time of writing, Apple-related media 9to5Mac lists AMD's

Ryzen 9 9950X and Intel's Core i9-14900K as the top-class CPUs on the market, but even compared to these, the M4 Max achieves superior benchmark scores.

In the Geekbench 6 benchmark test, the Ryzen 9 9950X has a single-core score of 3630 and a multi-core score of 26653. Compared to the M4 Max, the multi-core score is slightly lower, but the single-core score is much higher.

The Core i9-14900K has a single-core score of 3144 and a multi-core score of 23044. The single-core score is about 1000 points, and the multi-core score is over 3000 points.

In addition, Apple-related media 9to5Mac cautioned that 'While Geekbench 6 benchmark scores are useful as a rough estimate of what a Mac will look like in the hands of consumers, there may be some workflows that are not optimal for the M4 Max.'

In addition, Apple has previously released a top-end chip called 'Ultra' that combines two Max chips with UltraFusion technology, so if the M4 Ultra is released, it should have about twice the performance of the M4 Max, 9to5Mac points out. The M4 Ultra is scheduled to be first installed in the Mac Studio and Mac Pro in mid-2025.

·bonus
Geekbench 6 also has several benchmark scores for the M4 Pro . The single-core score of the Mac mini with the M4 Pro is around 3900, and the multi-core score is around 23000. The multi-core score of the M4 Pro exceeds that of the M2 Ultra .
