According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who is well-versed in Apple-related leaks, Apple is developing a smart home display that will come with a base similar to the iMac G4. The device will be slightly smaller, with a square display aspect ratio and about the size of two iPhones.

The display is placed at an angle on the base, reminiscent of the circular base of the iMac G4. The base also has a built-in speaker, making the device a sort of 'HomePod with a display.'

Smart home displays are small and relatively inexpensive, allowing you to place them in various locations around your home, and run an operating system that includes iPad-like apps like FaceTime, Notes, Calendar, etc. They're also good for showing videos and photo slideshows, but their primary purpose is to act as a hub for your smart home devices.

Apple's smart home display is scheduled to be released in 2025 and will be available in two models. The high-end model will be equipped with a large display controlled by a robotic arm and will be specialized for video conferencing and media playback. However, the high-end model will be priced at around $1,000 and will not be released until around 2026.

In addition, Apple has described the fifth week of October 2024 as ' a week of exciting announcements ' regarding the Mac, and is expected to announce the M4-equipped 24-inch iMac, Mac mini, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and more.

The M4 is equipped with a Neural Engine specialized for AI tasks, and its AI processing performance is expected to improve significantly from the previous model. Gurman reports that the AI processing performance of the M4 has evolved to 38 TOPS, which is more than twice as high as the M2's 15.8 TOPS and the M3's 18 TOPS.
