Photo review of the Ryzen AI-equipped notebook PC 'HP OmniBook Ultra 14-fd'

HP's notebook PC 'OmniBook Ultra 14-fd' was released in September 2024. It has overwhelming AI performance thanks to the NPU-equipped processor 'AMD Ryzen AI 300' series, which can perform up to 55 TOPS, or 55 trillion calculations per second, and can handle a variety of tasks with up to 32GB of memory and up to 1TB of SSD. I was able to touch the HP OmniBook Ultra 14 -fd , so I first took a lot of photos and took a close look at what kind of PC it was.

The outer box of the HP OmniBook Ultra 14-fd looks like this.

When I opened the box, I found the HP OmniBook Ultra 14-fd protected by black cloth cushioning.

Let's check the contents. First, the HP OmniBook Ultra 14-fd main unit.

Setup guides and other documentation.

Finally, the AC adapter and power cord.

First, let's look at the sides of the device when it's closed.

Right side.

Left side.

Back.

When you open the laptop, it looks like this. The screen is a 14-inch IPS touch display with a resolution of 2.2K, and the surface treatment is a glossy glare type.

The top of the display is equipped with an infrared camera and a webcam. In addition, although it is difficult to see, there are also two built-in microphones in the red frame area.

The manual camera shutter allows you to physically hide your webcam by sliding it from right to left.

The keyboard has a Japanese layout with 'half-width/full-width' keys, and has isolation keys to prevent typos. The 'Copilot key' is located where the application keys are.

The touchpad is 8cm long x 12.5cm wide, making it large enough to easily use mouse cursors and Windows touch gestures. The bottom of the touchpad can be pressed in, allowing left and right clicks.

The interface on the right side is two USB Type-C ports and a power indicator. One of the USB Type-C ports also doubles as a power port.

On the left side there is a USB Type-A port and a combo connector that serves as both an audio output (headphone) and an audio input (microphone).

There are ventilation holes and a rubber non-slip pad on the back, and two speakers are built into the front.

The body size is approximately 315 x 227 x 16.4 mm, and the actual weight is 1,522 g.

The total weight including the power supply is 1828g.

To use it, first plug in the power adapter. You can connect it to either USB Type-C port.

Connect the power cable to an outlet.

Turn the power on.

It has started.

As mentioned above, the display supports touch input. Considering typical notebook PC usage scenarios, there aren't many opportunities to directly touch the display to input data, but it is useful when you want to operate intuitively.

In the next article, we will examine the specifications of the HP OmniBook Ultra 14-fd, focusing on its AI performance, which is its biggest feature.
