The Hon Hai Kaohsiung Super Computing Center project, announced at the Hon Hai Tech Day exhibition event held in Taiwan on October 8, 2024, plans to deploy Taiwan's fastest supercomputer in Kaohsiung, Taiwan by 2026.
The Hon Hai Kaohsiung Super Computing Center will deploy a total of 64 racks of ' GB200 NVL72 ' GPUs, which use NVIDIA's ' Blackwell ' GPU architecture, and is expected to achieve AI performance of over 90 exaflops.
Foxconn says it plans to use the supercomputer to help make breakthroughs in cancer research, large-scale language model development, and smart city innovation, positioning Taiwan as a global leader in AI-driven industries.
'Foxconn's new AI supercomputer, powered by NVIDIA's Blackwell platform, is one of the most powerful in the world and represents a major leap forward in AI computing and efficiency,' said James Wu, vice president and spokesman for Foxconn. According to Foxconn, the Hon Hai Kaohsiung Super Computing Center will begin operations in mid-2025, with full deployment targeted for 2026.
In addition, Foxconn has been reducing its reliance on China in recent years due to concerns over rising geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. In this context, Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu revealed that the company is building a factory for NVIDIA in Guadalajara, a city in central Mexico. Foxconn's Mexican factory will mainly produce GB200 NVL72 chips for North American companies, and
Foxconn's Mexico factory is scheduled to start operations in 2025, and once operational, it is expected to become the world's largest factory producing GB200 NVL72. Regarding this large-scale investment, Chairman Liu pointed out, 'Although there are market concerns that 'AI computing needs will become saturated,' current demand trends are exceeding Foxconn's initial forecasts, and expectations for AI-related growth remain strong, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.'
