German woman in love with plane breaks up with Boeing 737 after nine-year relationship

A German local newspaper reported that a woman with

objectophilia, a sexual perversion in which people feel sexual attraction or arousal from inanimate objects, had been in love with a jetliner for nine years. Although the woman's wish to marry the plane was never fulfilled, she says that the two of them, or rather the woman and the plane, continue to have a good relationship after they broke up.

Warehouse worker Michel Kebke fell in love with airplanes on March 11, 2014. He was flying from Berlin, Germany to Basel, Switzerland, and fell in love with his first Boeing 737-800 .

'To me, he's very attractive and sexy. It's the most beautifully built, attractive, elegant aircraft,' said Kebke, who affectionately called the Boeing 737-800 ' Schatz, ' which means 'treasure' or 'darling' in German.

He said he is particularly attracted to the wings and

the winglets at the tips of them. 'Whenever I touch his wings, my palms get sweaty and I get excited. If I could, I would like to marry my lover and live with him in a hangar. It's a special kind of love that doesn't hurt anyone.'

Experts estimate that there may be around 40 people in the world who are like Kebke and have an objectophilic nature - an attraction to inanimate objects.

'This is a so-called paraphilia, a disorder of sexual preference, but as long as it doesn't cause problems such as distress or conflict, it can't be classified as pathological and in need of treatment,' forensic psychiatrist Werner Platz told German tabloid BILD.

According to Kebke, although she had been in a relationship with a human male until 2011, she had no romantic feelings for him. After that, in November 2013, she took her first flight and became fascinated with airplanes. In 2014, she saw a Boeing 737-800 at Tegel Airport and was completely captivated.

Wanting to spend as much time as possible with the Boeing 737-800s, Kebke tried to get a job at the airport, but was turned down due to his objectophilia, and was also refused an ID card to enter the airport.

Therefore, Kebke and the Boeing 737-800 could only meet during airplane trips. Since the cost of traveling in the sky was high, Kebke had no choice but to sleep every day with a model jet plane in his arms.

At one point, Kebke even considered traveling to the Netherlands,

the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage and known for its relaxed marriage practices, to hold a wedding with a Boeing 737-800. But as time went on, his interest gradually waned, and he eventually ended his relationship of about 10 years.

'To this day, he and I are friends,' Kebke told BILD after selling off 300 airport souvenirs and aviation memorabilia at a flea market for aviation enthusiasts.

Kebuke's new interest is in the armor of medieval knights.

This isn't the first time that a German woman's love affair with an object has been in the news.

In 2008, a woman was reported to have been in a relationship with the Berlin Wall for 29 years, but after the wall came down, she reportedly fell in love with a garden hedge instead.
