According to CPSC Commissioners Peter A. Feldman and Douglas Dziak, SHEIN and Temu sell products such as hoodies that the CPSC has cited as a 'stranglehold hazard' and padded crib bumpers that are banned in the United States because they pose a suffocation hazard.

Manufacturers, retailers, importers and distributors of consumer products all fall under the jurisdiction of the CPSC, which is responsible for protecting consumers from items that pose an unreasonable risk of injury.

As a result, the two commissioners recommended that SHEIN and Temu be evaluated for their compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Act.

In addition, in August 2024, regulatory authorities in Seoul, South Korea announced that carcinogenic substances exceeding the standard levels had been detected in products sold by SHEIN and Temu, which became a hot topic in Japan as well.
