It has been revealed that xAI, an AI company founded by Elon Musk, has begun operation of the AI learning cluster Colossus . Colossus is equipped with 100,000 NVIDIA H100 high-performance AI processing chips.




On September 2, 2024, Musk posted, 'This weekend, the xAI team brought online the AI learning cluster 'Colossus' with 100,000 H100s. It took 122 days to build Colossus. Colossus is the most powerful AI learning system in the world,' announcing the start of Colossus operation. At the same time, Musk also said, 'Colossus will double in size to 200,000 H100s (50,000 H200s) within a few months.'

NVIDIA's official X account also responded to Musk, saying, 'We're excited to bring Colossus, the world's largest GPU supercomputer, online in record time. Colossus leverages NVIDIA's accelerated computing platform, which will deliver extraordinary improvements in energy efficiency and groundbreaking processing power.'




In May 2024, Musk told investors that he plans to deploy 100,000 H100s, and this announcement marks the realization of his plan. xAI has publicly stated that it aims to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) and is recruiting people to work on AGI research.
