Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, often posts controversial content on Twitter (formerly Twitter), such as sharing false information spread by far-right parties and videos of unknown authenticity . On September 2, 2024, Musk reposted a post that claimed that 'women are incapable of critical thinking.'

The controversy began when Autism Capital, a right-wing account that has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and supported former President Donald Trump, posted a screenshot of a post on the foreign message board site 4chan in 2021 which claimed that 'only men with high testosterone levels and people with atypical development are capable of critical thinking' and 'a republic made up of such high-ranking men is ideal for decision-making.'

Musk responded by saying, 'That's an interesting observation,' and reposted the post.

Musk's sexist post was met with criticism, with Vox correspondent Eric Levitz saying, 'It's not nice that the owner of one of the most politically influential social media platforms, X, is now openly racist.'

Radio personality Jenna Ellis criticized the report, saying it was 'simply not accurate.'

'Musk's behavior has hardly surprised me lately, but this post is like nothing I've seen before. He's backing up posts that claim women lack critical thinking skills and therefore can't be the best leaders for a democracy,' said one user. 'This post has really taken Musk's 'mask' off.'

While little of what Musk does these days surprises me, this post amid his daily deluge is something I've never seen before. He boosts a post arguing that women do not have the capacity for critical thought, and therefore cannot be the best leaders for a democracy.

Feels like a mask off moment.
