◆Xbox Adaptive Joystick
Xbox expressed a need for a single, affordable joystick that could be used with the Xbox Adaptive Controller and other controllers, and after multiple years of research and testing, we introduced the Xbox Adaptive Joystick. Designed specifically for Xbox players with limited motor skills, the Xbox Adaptive Joystick includes four buttons on the front, a standard thumbstick, and two additional buttons that mimic the bumper and trigger placement of a traditional controller, all of which are customizable.
The versatility of the Xbox Adaptive Joystick allows players to seamlessly incorporate the controller into their existing gaming setup: it can be used one-handed, mounted on a tabletop, or used with body parts other than the hands.
Xbox lists the following use cases for the Xbox Adaptive Joystick:
To take full advantage of the controller's capabilities while using the Xbox Adaptive Joystick, connect directly to your console or PC and connect another controller for menu navigation and Nexus button functionality, or use Xbox Controller Assist (formerly Xbox Copilot) to link the Xbox Adaptive Joystick to your Xbox controller and play alone or with other players.
-Customize by remapping buttons, create multiple controller profiles, and switch between profiles, all in the Xbox Accessories app.
Optionally, you can connect to a 1/4-20 threaded mounting device (sold separately) to optimize operation of your Xbox Adaptive Joystick.
The Xbox Adaptive Joystick will be available in select Xbox markets around the world in early 2025 for $29.99.
3D printable adaptive thumbstick topper data now available from Xbox Design Lab
Xbox has received requests from players for more options for customizable thumbstick toppers, so in collaboration with community members, charities and hospitals involved in adaptive gaming and 3D printing, they are making 3D data for adaptive thumbstick toppers available for free on the Xbox Design Lab.
The six newly unveiled Adaptive Thumbstick Toppers include a plate shape with a shallow, concave surface; a dome shape to accommodate a range of grip strength and dexterity levels; a stick shape with a thin, cylindrical grip; a pull thumb shape with a deep, bowl-shaped surface that surrounds the fingers; a smooth, rounded ball shape; and a custom shape made from clay or moldable plastic for added adhesion.
