The incident was reported by Tiffany Floyd, a New York resident. Floyd took her baby and 4-year-old daughter to a Burger King in Getzville, New York in the early afternoon of July 26, 2024, and purchased two hamburger sets at the drive-through.

After buying food at Burger King, Floyd drove for about five minutes and handed his daughter Matailla a bag of burger set, after which he heard her say, 'Mom, I don't want ketchup.'

Thinking that he had probably gotten his order wrong, Floyd took the bag from Matailla and noticed that there was blood all over the contents of the bag, including the burger wrappers, french fries and bonus toy.

'I immediately told her to spit her food out. She had eaten some fries and some burger. And then I looked at my food and I saw there was blood on it,' Floyd said.

Floyd quickly stopped his car and called the restaurant, where the manager told him that an employee had cut his hand just before cooking and bagging the meal. The Burger King manager apologized to Floyd and offered a refund.

Floyd also contacted the pediatrician for help with her daughter's ingestion of human blood, but was told she would have to wait 30 days before she could have a blood test, which she will then undergo regular checkups over the course of a year to ensure she is not infected with any infectious diseases.

Floyd also reported the incident to the Niagara County Health Department in New York, and the local health inspector contacted Burger King management, who reportedly said that while some customers had indeed cut their fingers, they did not think the bleeding was severe.

'My daughter hasn't eaten anything since then and I'm extremely worried,' Floyd said. 'What if she needs professional help for this?'

Burger King told media, 'We are extremely upset and concerned to learn of this incident. We are in contact with our guest and are working to resolve this incident. The incident occurred when a restaurant staff member injured his finger and immediately left his position upon realizing it. We have closed the location, retrained all staff, and hired an outside company to conduct a deep cleaning.'

Burger King said the restaurant reopened on July 29 and that employees were paid in full for the time they were closed. Floyd said he was consulting with a lawyer about Burger King's initial offer to only refund his meal.
