Regarding the formation of the union, the World of Warcraft Gamemakers Guild released the following statement:
'We are the World of Warcraft Gamemakers Guild, Blizzard 's first all-out labor union. We're thrilled to be able to include the voices of WoW's quality assurance, art, sound, design, engineering, and production in our democratized workplace. At this critical moment for gaming, we are united in our fight for Azeroth!'
Blizzard Entertainment, the developer of WoW, is a game developer and publisher operating as a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, which Microsoft completed its acquisition in 2023. A labor union was recently formed at Bethesda Game Studios, a game studio under Microsoft.

When Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, it agreed to a hands-off approach to unionization, a landmark move in the United States, where federal law allows companies to oppose unionization.
Eric Lanham of the WoW Gamemakers Guild said, 'What we've accomplished with WoW is just the beginning. We're embarking on a quest for better pay, benefits and job security through a strong union contract. An environment where workers have a voice is a win-win for workers, the company and WoW fans alike.'
