◆Xiaomi MIX Fold 4
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 is a folding smartphone with a 6.56-inch external display and a 7.98-inch internal display. Both displays support a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. It also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision .



It's 9.47mm thin when folded, 4.59mm thin when unfolded, and weighs just 226g.



It has an all-carbon architecture, with all parts made from 'T800H' carbon fiber, from the hinges to the display backplate. The hinges are made from 1800MPa high-strength stainless steel and T800H carbon fiber, and can withstand up to 500,000 folding movements.




This is the first Xiaomi foldable smartphone to achieve IPX8 equivalent waterproof performance.



The processor is Qualcomm's

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 , the memory (RAM) is 12GB or 16GB, the storage (ROM) is UFS 4.0 compatible 256GB, 512GB, 1TB available. The battery capacity is 5100mAh, and it supports 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

The internal display has a camera mounted at the bottom of the display, and the main camera on the back is a Leica-branded quad camera consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.2x zoom, a 50-megapixel periscope camera with 5x zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.



Multicore , a technology blog that has published a hands-on review of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4, wrote, 'The Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 feels very similar to a normal smartphone when held in the hand. When folded, it is 9.47mm thick, which is more than 1mm thinner than the MIX Fold 3 and much thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6's 12.1mm. It also weighs 226g, only 5g thinner than the iPhone 15 Pro Max,' conveying a positive impression of the device's thinness and size.

Technology media GSMArena.com , on the other hand, pointed out that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 is too thin, making the power button on the side uncomfortable to use. However, it said that the hinge is sturdier than the Xiaomi MIX Flip, and is very stable with smooth operation. It also praised the fact that there is almost no gap between the displays when closed.



However, the rear glass is 'less susceptible to fingerprints, but more susceptible to scratches.'

The selling price of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 is $1,237 (about 195,000 yen) for the cheapest one with 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM, and $1,513 (about 238,000 yen) for the most expensive one with 16GB RAM and 1TB ROM.

◆Xiaomi MIX Flip
The Xiaomi MIX Flip is Xiaomi's first clamshell-type folding smartphone, which is almost square when folded. The 4.01-inch display is available even when folded, but the display area is in an inverted L-shape due to the dual camera in the upper left, as shown below.



The inner display is a 6.86-inch OLED (organic light-emitting diode display) with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a maximum brightness of 3000 nits. The device is 15.99mm thin when folded.



The color variations are black, white, and blue.



The processor is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the RAM is 12GB or 16GB, and the ROM is UFS 4.0 compatible with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage. The battery capacity is 4780mAh and supports 67W wired charging, but there is no mention of wireless charging.

The main camera is a dual camera, consisting of a 50 megapixel camera and a 50 megapixel telephoto camera with 2x zoom. The inner display is a punch-hole display and is equipped with a 32 megapixel front camera. The camera on the Xiaomi MIX Flip is also Leica branded.

Multicore, who used the actual Xiaomi MIX Flip, praised the 4.01-inch display for covering the entire outer panel, pointing out that the display is more spacious than other companies' vertical folding smartphones. However,

he wrote that he was unable to install the applications he regularly uses, so the actual usage experience is unknown.

GSMArena.com writes, 'The glass back of the Xiaomi MIX Flip is velvety to the touch, which is very pleasant, but unfortunately it scratches easily. The device I reviewed got scratched quickly, but not with particularly careless handling. However, it doesn't attract fingerprints or smudges very often.'

The hinge is also quite sturdy, smoothly adjustable and can be fixed open at any angle. It seems that there is a click sound when the display is opened 180 degrees. There is only a slight wobble when the display is opened at 90 degrees. GSMArena.com also praised the fact that there is no gap between the two displays when closed.

However, the crease in the main display is 'certainly noticeable' as shown below.



The Xiaomi MIX Flip is priced at $825 (approximately 130,000 yen) for the cheapest model with 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM, and $1,004 (approximately 158,000 yen) for the most expensive model with 16GB RAM and 1TB ROM.
