Google Search ends testing of 'note-adding feature to search results'

Google has reported that it will end testing of the feature that allows users to add notes to search results, which it has been doing since November 2023, at the end of July 2024. As a result of the testing, it appears that the official implementation of the feature has been postponed.

This feature, called 'Notes,' added buttons labeled 'Add Note' and '○○notes' to the information displayed in the search results. Users could add notes by clicking 'Add Note,' and view notes written by other users by clicking '○○notes.'

Notes also allowed you to add text-based annotations, stamps, and images to sites.

The purpose of 'Notes' was to improve the search experience by visualizing what people with similar attributes have to say about a particular site, but Google announced that it will end this feature at the end of July 2024. Google spokesperson Ashley Thompson said, 'Not all tests conducted in Google Search Labs will be implemented in the final version. We look forward to incorporating what we learn from Notes into future product experiences.'
