After multiple rejections, Apple suddenly accepts Epic Games' application for a third-party mobile app store, Epic Games Store, bringing Fortnite back to iPhone
Epic Games has been engaged in a long legal battle with Apple, and has finallymanaged to open a third-party app store in the EU . Epic Games is also aiming to open the Epic Games Store as a third-party app store available on iOS devices, but Apple has rejected the application to open the Epic Games Store multiple times. However, when Epic Games announced that it would file an objection with the European Commission (EC), the EU's policy enforcement body, Apple suddenly accepted the application to open the Epic Games Store.

On July 5, 2024, Epic Games' official X (formerly Twitter) account posted, 'Apple has rejected our Epic Games Store certification application twice because the design and location of the 'Install' button in our Epic Games Store app for iOS is very similar to the 'Get' button on the App Store, Apple's official app store, and the Epic Games Store's 'In-app Purchase' labels are also very similar to the App Store's 'In-app Purchase' labels.'

In addition, Epic Games stated, 'We use the same 'Install' and 'In-App Purchase' naming conventions used by popular app stores and follow the standard conventions for buttons in iOS apps. We are simply trying to build an app store that is easy for mobile users to understand, and our 'In-App Purchase' labels are now a best practice adopted by almost all app stores.' In addition, the company posted, 'We have communicated our concerns to the EC because we believe that Apple's refusal to accept our Epic Games Store application is arbitrary and disruptive and in violation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Barring further interference from Apple, we are already prepared to launch the Epic Games Store and Fortnite for iOS in the EU in the coming months,' emphasizing that the Epic Games Store is already ready for release in the EU.

Nine hours after the initial post, Epic Games posted, 'We have been informed by Apple that our previously rejected application for the Epic Games Store has been accepted,' informing users that the application had suddenly been accepted.

According to Apple Insider, Apple has confirmed that it has officially accepted Epic Games' application for the Store. However, Apple has also revealed that it has asked Epic Games to change the design of the app button for further review.
