Founded in 2018, Cameyo has been developing a virtual app delivery (VAD) platform that virtualizes Windows apps and runs them on non-Windows devices and in web browsers.
In addition, Cameyo announced that it will partner with Google in 2023 to roll out VAD services on ChromeOS . This will enable companies that have introduced Chromebooks to run Windows apps via the web without having to build a virtual desktop environment such as VDI or DaaS .
By acquiring Cameyo, Google will gain expertise and technology in software virtualization. Cameyo co-founder and CMO Rob Henshaw told The Verge, 'This acquisition will allow these virtualized apps to be more deeply integrated into ChromeOS, which will not only improve the end user experience, but also make it easier for enterprise IT administrators to deploy and push these apps to their users.'
According to Google, the acquisition of Cameyo will enable businesses to simplify application deployment and further strengthen security, as well as improve productivity by eliminating compatibility issues and performance degradation, and reduce IT costs associated with application management.
'Combining the power of ChromeOS with Cameyo's innovative VAD technology enables businesses to modernize their IT infrastructure while preserving their existing software investments,' Google said.
At the time of writing, Google had not disclosed the total acquisition amount or terms of Cameyo.
