'Zakumochi Dog' Tasting Review: A crunchy, chewy dough sandwiched with meat and curry, like the 'fried bread' that came out for school lunches
On June 5, 2024, Mister Donut released three new 'Zaku Mochi Dog' items. The three Zaku Mochi Dogs are the ' Zaku Mochi Dog Curry' with curry filling and topped with sliced eggs, the 'Zaku Mochi Dog Mexican Meat ' with Mexican meat and topped with cheddar cheese sauce, and the ' Zaku Mochi Dog Egg ' with egg salad filling and topped with sliced eggs. I bought and tried all three to see what they tasted like.

I bought three Zaku Mochi Dogs to take out.
From the left are 'Zaku Mochi Dog Mexican Meat', 'Zaku Mochi Dog Curry' and 'Zaku Mochi Dog Egg'.
Each card is about one size larger than a public transport IC card.
The actual weight of the 'Zaku Mochi Dog Mexican Meat' is 107g.
The Mexican sauce, which is said to be inspired by chili con carne, is sandwiched between the dough and contains tomatoes, beans, ground beef, etc.
There's nothing special on the back.
So, let's try it. The sauce sandwiched between the dough is hot and spicy, with a 'Mexican' aroma. The cheese adds a nice sourness to the flavor. The outside of the dough is crunchy and the inside is chewy, and every time you bite into it, you hear a 'crunch' sound, which is great. It was a satisfying meal in one sitting.
Next, I tried the 'Zaku Mochi Dog Curry'. The actual weight was 103g.
The egg white is squishy and the yolk is runny.
This is what it looks like from the side. It's sweet with just a slight spiciness; the 'Zaku Mochi Dog Mexican' I had earlier was spicier. The egg that goes into your mouth is very soft and mellow. The aroma of the spices is simple, and the flavor is well-balanced, making it easy to eat. There are curry breads sold at bakeries that have a crunchy dough, and that's a pretty close image to this one. After taking the last bite, I felt a pleasant sweet aroma of the dough that I hadn't noticed before wafting through my nose.
Finally, I tried the 'Zaku Mochi Dog Egg'. It weighed 94g.
Inside is an egg salad filling.
The filling itself is the same as a regular egg sandwich, but the dough is crunchy and chewy, making it something completely different from regular egg sandwiches. The filling has almost no sourness and you can enjoy the taste of the egg as it is, and the dough breaks apart nicely, allowing you to fully enjoy both.
The price of the 'Zaku Mochi Dog' is the same for all three items: 302 yen (tax included) for takeout and 308 yen (tax included) for eat-in.
