'HUNTER×HUNTER Hiatus Chart' visualizes how long the manga 'HUNTER×HUNTER' has been on hiatus since it began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump

Hunter x Hunter , which began serialization in March 1998, has been popular but has had many hiatuses, with the series continuing to run despite repeated hiatuses. At times the hiatus has lasted for over three years, and when it resumes it is famous for attracting so much attention that it makes the news . Hunter x Hunter Hiatus Chart is a website that uses various tables to visualize what percentage of Hunter x Hunter has been on hiatus since its inception.

Below is a chart showing HUNTER×HUNTER on hiatus from the website. The vertical axis is the year, and the horizontal axis is the issue number of Weekly Shonen Jump. Blue indicates whether HUNTER×HUNTER has been published in the magazine since issue 14 of 1998, when serialization began, and red indicates whether it has been published. Note that the latest issue at the time of writing is issue 26 of 2024, but the table shows issue 21, so the information does not include the latest issue in Japan.

Hovering over each block will show you which issue of Jump it is in and, if it is published, which chapter it is. One thing to note about the chart is that after the 400th chapter of HUNTER×HUNTER's combined 4th and 5th issue of 2023, released on December 26, 2022, it was announced that 'We will be delivering it to you in a format that is not a weekly serialization from now on.' Therefore, it is not exactly 'on hiatus from Weekly Shonen Jump' from that point on, but since it has not been announced where and how it will be published at the time of writing, the site notes that 'The chart will follow the Weekly Shonen Jump schedule until a new format is announced.'

Clicking the 'Arcs' button in the top right of the chart will allow you to see the table color-coded by story chapter. In order of oldest to newest, the 'Hunter Exam Arc' is color-coded in blue, the 'Zoldyck Family Arc' in dark green, the 'Heaven's Arena Arc' in yellow, the 'Yorkshin Arc' in green, the 'Greed Island (GI) Arc' in orange, the 'Chimera Ant Arc' in purple, the 'Hunter Association Chairman Election Arc' in magenta, the 'Dark Continent Arc' which depicts the preparation period for the Dark Continent in gray, and the latest 'Succession to the Throne Arc' which depicts the battle between the royal family and their subordinates on the ship heading for the Dark Continent in light green. Parts that are not colored are on hiatus.

Also, if you scroll down the site, you can see other formats that show the hiatus trends of HUNTER×HUNTER. In 'Streaks,' you can see the consecutive number of serialized chapters and the number of chapters on hiatus in the form of a bar graph.

'Streaks' allows you to set a 'threshold'; for example, if you set it to '10', serializations or hiatuses that are less than nine consecutive issues will not be displayed. If you set the threshold to '1', all data will be displayed.

Below is the threshold set to '1' to display the hiatus and serialization pace since issue 3 of 2013. Since issue 20 of 2016, we can see that the series has been on hiatus after publishing about 10 chapters. The 184 consecutive weeks of hiatus from issue 1 of 2019 to issue 46 of 2022, or about three years and 10 months, is the longest consecutive hiatus period at the time of writing.

'Trend' makes it easy to see the volume values of serialized and on-hidden chapters by year.

In addition, the related links on the site also contain

a chart of hiatuses for 'Yu Yu Hakusho,' another work by Yoshihiro Togashi. According to this, Yu Yu Hakusho was only on hiatus once in its three years of serialization.

At the bottom of 'Hiatus Chart' there is a comments section, where comments include anticipation for the start of serialization since Togashi has been reporting on the progress of his manuscript in X, as well as comments expressing delight at the upload of an illustration of Gon Freecss, the main character of Hunter x Hunter, who previously appeared on the cover of Weekly Shonen Jump.
