Rocket holds multiple world typing records in Monkeytype, but one that stands out is his record of 305 words per minute in the 15-second category. Considering that the average person's typing speed is about 40 words per minute, you can see how outstanding Rocket's record is.
In fact, the moment Rocket achieved 305 words per minute in 15 seconds was uploaded to YouTube as a video.
TYPING 305 WPM FOR 15 SECONDS [WORLD RECORD] - YouTube
Rocket repeats a 15-second typing test on Monkeytype. The test involves typing the characters in the center of the screen as quickly and accurately as possible. The numbers on the left above the characters indicate the number of seconds remaining, and to the right of that, the number of words typed per minute.
Below the text, you can see Rocket's fingers and the keyboard as he types. His fingers move at a speed that seems impossible for a human to do.
If they make a typo early on or their first word is unfavorable, they seem to immediately switch to the next test.
Several tests start from the beginning of the video.
I made it to the end with almost no typos.
Rocket keeps going and hits the world record of 305 words per minute (the exact score is 304.76 words per minute), and yells with joy.
In an interview with PCMag, Rocket said he started to get serious about typing about three years ago. Although he didn't have any typing classes at school, he did play a few online typing games.
Rocket first noticed how fast he was typing after he started chatting a lot in Minecraft. 'At one point, I realized I was typing a little fast, so I wanted to get a little faster. It was a kind of challenge, and I set my goal to hit 150 words per minute, and when I achieved that, I set my goal to hit 160 words per minute, and then I reached 200 words per minute,' he said.
Rocket once gave up typing after being satisfied with 200 words per minute, but he decided he wanted to start typing again, so he practiced and reached a level where he could type at a speed of over 300 words per minute. 'I would do Monkeytype for about 15 to 30 minutes every day, typing as hard as I could. I kept doing that and gradually got faster. Now I hold the world records of 60 seconds and 15 seconds. I hold other records, but people don't seem to be very interested in them,' Rocket said.
When Rocket first started typing, he used a SteelSeries
Rocket plans to start studying software engineering after graduating from high school, and at the time of writing, he has stopped speed typing. However, he does not seem to plan to leave speed typing, and told PCMag, 'There may be things I want to do in the summer of 2024, but I also want to actively type.'
