YouTube's free game 'Playables' is officially released
YouTube's collection of free games, Playables , has officially launched in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Playables is a collection of games that can be accessed on both desktop and mobile, all running on YouTube.

According to YouTube, users who live in the affected regions will see a Playables link in the 'Discovery' menu and will be able to access the game via the link.
At the time of writing, games available to play include Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Tomb of the Mask, and Trivia Crack.

All games offered on Playables are free. You can enjoy games on YouTube by accessing YouTube using the YouTube app version 18.33 or later on Android/iOS, or Chrome, Safari, or Firefox on your desktop. There is no need to download the game, and the save data will be saved as YouTube history.
Playables have been tested for some users since around November 2023. TechCrunch, a technology media company, pointed out that 'Playables does not monetize through paid downloads or in-app purchases, so it does not directly challenge other app stores or break Apple's monetization rules. However, it is true that it competes with free games on the App Store. In the future, Playables may display ads, but for now, Google has not indicated any intention to monetize Playables.'
Polygon , who actually tried Playables, said, 'There is a lot of room for improvement in the interface. Currently, Playables games can only be narrowed down by 'Home', which displays games you have played, and 'Browse', which displays all available games alphabetically. You can also search for games in the YouTube search bar, but you have to scroll through several rows of videos and ads before you get to Playables. This, along with the poor selection of titles, speaks to one of the main reasons why Android app store Google Play cannot beat Apple's App Store: the poor 'curation'. I access both marketplaces, and I feel that Google is bloated with crappy games that exist to promote ads. '
