Windows 11's standard drawing app 'Paint' will have an image generation AI function 'Cocreator' that will generate images in real time based on illustrations drawn by users

In November 2023, Microsoft implemented

an update to add the image generation function 'Cocreator' to the standard drawing app 'Paint' for Windows 11. In addition, on May 20, 2024, Microsoft announced a function for the NPU-equipped PC ' Copilot+ PC ' that generates images in real time while drawing illustrations with Cocreator.

Previously, Cocreator only supported image generation by entering text prompts, but the newly announced feature is unique in that it can generate images closer to the user's desired image by combining a sketch drawn by the user with the input prompt.

A demo of Cocreator's new feature, real-time image generation, can be seen in the following movie.

Microsoft says, 'Cocreator enables near real-time image generation that combines drawing and text prompts, making it easier to refine, edit and evolve your ideas. It is equipped with a powerful diffusion-based algorithm that allows you to generate the highest quality images with the fewest steps, and you can feel as if you are generating illustrations together with AI.'

Users can also customize the generated results by moving the 'Creativity' slider under the prompt input field to the left or right. Microsoft explained that 'The creativity slider allows you to create a range of artwork, from images as prompted to more expressive images.'

At the time of writing, Cocreator's real-time image generation feature is only available on Copilot+ PCs equipped with NPUs, and it is unclear whether it will be available on all existing devices running Windows 11.
