Sony launches new structure for its gaming division, appointing Hideaki Nishino and Herman Hulst as new CEOs of SIE subsidiary



Sony Group Corporation and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), which handles the PlayStation business, announced a new management structure for SIE on Monday, May 13, 2024. Effective June 1, 2024, Hideaki Nishino will become CEO of the SIE Platform Business Group, Herman Hulst will become CEO of the SIE Studios Business Group, and Hiroki Totoki, who is currently serving as interim CEO of SIE, will become chairman of SIE.

Nishino previously served as SIE's Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, leading the team responsible for developing PlayStation products and services.



Nishino, who will become CEO of the Platform Business Group on June 1, 2024, will continue to lead areas such as the PlayStation platform experience, but will also be responsible for business operations including relations with third-party publishers and developers, as well as sales and marketing of hardware, services and peripherals.

Nishino commented, 'SIE will continue to strive to grow our community through innovation in all areas of the company. I am honored to be appointed to this important role alongside Harman.'

Hulst, who will also take on the role of CEO of SIE Studios Business Group on the same day, has previously served as SVP and general manager of SIE PlayStation Studios, where he was involved in the production of content for a variety of devices, including PlayStation consoles and PCs.

Hulst is also in charge of PlayStation Productions, which develops game IP into films and other video content, and was involved in

the Emmy Award -winning TV drama version of the popular survival horror action game The Last of Us .

In his new role as CEO of SIE's Studio Business Group, Hulst will be responsible for overseeing the development, publishing and business operations of SIE's first-party content.

'I look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible in one of the largest genres in the entertainment industry: video games.'

In addition, Sony Group President, COO and CFO Toki Toki, who has served as interim CEO of SIE, will now serve as Chairman of SIE.

'I am confident that these two leaders, with their distinct roles, will further advance our strategic direction of strengthening engagement with existing PlayStation users while expanding the experience to new demographics.'
