NVIDIA announced the H200 GPU for AI and high performance computing (HPC) in November 2023. The H200 is advertised as having twice the inference speed compared to the previous generation H100 and 110 times the HPC performance compared to x86 CPUs.

It was reported that shipments of the H200 had begun at the end of March 2024. Then, on April 24, 2024 local time, NVIDIA CEO Huang delivered the H200-equipped AI server DGX H200 directly to OpenAI, an important customer, as reported by OpenAI's Brockman on X (formerly Twitter).

In the image attached to the post, from the left, OpenAI CEO Altman, NVIDIA CEO Huang, and OpenAI's Brockman are standing with their arms around each other in front of the heavy DGX H200. In the post, Brockman said, 'The world's first NVIDIA DGX H200 was handed over to OpenAI by Jensen to be dedicated to 'AI, computing, and the advancement of humanity.''

Technology media Tom's Hardware says the H200's performance is a big step up from the previous generation H100, and few would argue with NVIDIA's claim that it's 'the world's most powerful GPU for supercharging AI workloads.'

Tom's Hardware also points out that Huang delivered a server directly to OpenAI in 2016. On that occasion, Huang delivered a ' DGX-1 ,' and among the recipients was Elon Musk , co-founder of OpenAI and still a director at the time.

In addition, Mr. Musk expressed dissatisfaction with OpenAI, which was originally a non-profit organization, becoming a for-profit organization, and filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in March 2024.
