According to the overseas media Bleeping Computer, users will be able to use Google Podcasts until April 2, 2024, and will no longer be able to listen to programs after that. There is a transition period until July 2024, and it is required to use the app's export function to support the transition.
Please note that the service will end on April 2, 2024 only in the United States, and plans for other regions are undecided. However, it has been clear for some time that the service will no longer be available in other areas by the end of 2024.
Google has been operating Google Podcasts, which was introduced in 2018, for a while, but in 2023 it started distributing the podcast viewing function through YouTube Music, and has been trying to unify the function.
In September 2023, an official announcement was made that ``Google Podcasts will be completely terminated in the second half of 2024,'' but the specific date was not known.
Since discontinuation has been decided in early 2024, it is possible that Google has already achieved the unification of functionality into YouTube Music. BleepingComputer points out, ``Google may become a bigger player in the podcast field, not only because of its narrow focus, but also because the public's interest in video podcasts is increasing.'' In addition to video distribution and music distribution, he expressed the view that Google will expand its influence in the podcast field.
