X (formerly Twitter) is testing the 'adult community' feature

It has been discovered that a feature that allows users to label communities as 'contains adult content' when creating them on Twitter (formerly Twitter) is being tested in the development version. By adding this label, users can create communities that are dedicated to posting adult content, such as so-called NSFW (Not safe for work) content.

A screenshot shared by a user who tested the development version revealed that the screen for creating a community in X now includes a new option to label it as 'contains adult content.' According to the rules accompanying the option, failure to label content may result in some content being filtered or removed.

Communities that have been labeled will have the words 'Adult Content' displayed at the top of the community page.

X's policy states that it is acceptable to post adult content with a warning setting, as long as it is not in prominent locations such as live broadcasts, profile pictures, or header images.

While adult content creators cannot monetize on X, if they were able to create communities dedicated to adult content, it could potentially help these creators get closer to their users and steer them towards other forms of monetization outside of X.

'The new labels are intended to make our communities safer by automatically excluding NSFW content from searches,' said Dong Wook Chung, a senior software engineer at X. 'Only users who have set their age will be able to search for communities that contain NSFW content.' He pointed out that the main goal is to clearly isolate NSFW content.

X's owner, Elon Musk, has been vocal about his belief that X should host almost all content that is not illegal, setting X apart from other platforms that often don't allow adult content at all.

It is not known whether the test function discovered this time will be made public.
