An unopened first-generation iPhone was sold at auction for about 20 million yen. What are the factors behind the soaring price?
A new, unopened version of the first-generation iPhone released in June 2007 was sold at an internet auction for $130,27.20 (approximately 19.7 million yen).

In mid-March 2024, a new, unopened first-generation iPhone 4GB model was put up for sale on an internet auction site operated by auction house LCG Auctions .
The first generation iPhone was released in 4GB and 8GB lineups on June 29, 2007, but the 4GB model is rare because sales ended two months later on September 5th. The starting price was set at $10,000 (approximately 1.5 million yen), but based on past results, OCG Auctions expected the bid to be over $100,000 (approximately 15 million yen).
The first-generation iPhone exhibited is in very good condition, with seven of the eight corners of the presentation case in good condition, and no fading or dents.
This original iPhone was ultimately sold for $130,27.20.

On the other hand, the 8GB model of the unopened original iPhone was sold for $37,663 (about 5.7 million yen), which shows that the winning bid price is very low compared to the 4GB model.
