According to Bloomberg, Apple is developing a code-generation AI feature for its Xcode integrated development environment and is expanding internal testing of the feature, with sources saying the feature will be released to third-party developers sometime in 2024.

Apple is also exploring other potential uses for generative AI, such as an AI feature that automatically creates playlists in Apple Music, an AI feature that automatically creates slideshows in Keynote, and an AI chatbot for Spotlight . Spotlight, the search feature available on Macs and iPhones, could potentially use AI to enable specific app functions, allowing users to perform more complex operations using natural language requests, as with ChatGPT.

While tech giants like Microsoft and Meta have been prominently announcing AI research and products, Apple has only announced MLX, a framework for training and deploying machine learning models, MGIE, an image editing AI model, and Keyframer, an AI tool that animates still images with just a few prompts.

Apple's code-generation AI feature for Xcode, similar to Microsoft's GitHub Copilot and Amazon's CodeWhisperer, will use large-scale language models (LLMs) to complement programmers' coding work.

According to reports, Xcode's code generation AI feature can generate code based on natural language requests and convert code from one programming language to another. Xcode's AI feature can predict blocks of code and generate code, streamlining the app development process for developers.

Apple is expected to announce its AI-related plans at its annual developer event, WWDC.
